The Tribal Council hired a new CFO in August of 2024. At that time, the Tribe was six years behind on Single Audit Report submissions. The CFO has been working closely with the Tribal Chairman and the Tribal Treasurer, as well as the rest of the Tribal Council and the Finance Department staff, to ensure that appropriate financial policies and procedures are in place and followed consistently. The Tribe has formulated a reality-based approach to getting current on its Single Audit Report submissions with the goal of getting increasingly current on SAR’s year by year. The Tribe has communicated its planned course of action both verbally and in writing to representatives from various funding agencies, including the EPA and the DHHS, who have expressed appreciation to the Tribe for its forthrightness and candor. These representatives have also communicated a willingness to work with the Tribe to regain compliance with 2 CFR 200.512 as expeditiously as possible.
