I. U.S. Department of Education 1) Replicating High-Quality Charter Preschools The purpose of the Charter Schools Program (CSP) is to increase the national understanding of the charter school model by (1) expanding the number of high-quality charter schools available to students across the Nation by providing financial assistance for the planning, program design, and initial implementation of charter schools, and (2) by evaluating the effects of charter schools, including their effects on students, student academic achievement, staff and parents. Through the CSP Grants to Charter Management Organizations for the Replication and Expansion of High-Quality Charter Schools (ALN 84.282M) (also referred to as Charter Management Organization, or CMO, grants), the Department provides funds to charter management organizations (CMOs) on a competitive basis to enable them to replicate or expand one or more high-quality charter schools. Grant funds may be used to expand the enrollment of one or more existing high-quality charter schools, or to replicate one or more new charter schools that are based on an existing, high-quality charter school model.
