The Crime Victim Assistance Grants provide financial support services to crime victims thorugh eligible crime victim assistance programs. The violence against women formula grants assists states, Indian tribal governments, tribal courts, state and local courts and units of local government to develop and strengthen effective law enforcement and prosecution strategies to combat violent crimes against women, and develop and strengthen victim services in cases involving crimes against women. The program encourages the development and implementation of effective, victim-centered law enforcement, prosecution and court strategies to address violent crimes against women and the development and the enhancement of victim services in cases involving violent crimes against women. The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants Program provides states, tribes and local governments with critical funding necessary to support a range of program areas including law enforcement, prosecution and court, prevention and education, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement planning, evaluation and technology improvement, crime victim and witness initiatives and mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs, including behavioral programs and crisis intervention teams. The Children's Justice Grants to States provide counties with additional resources to more effectively respond to the needs of child abuse victims and their families. The National Priority Safety Program provides resources to reduce the number of highways deaths through protection programs, state traffic safety improvements and impaired driving countermeasures.
